Alexander Technique
It is common for people who are otherwise in good health to complain of back pain, excessive fatigue, poor posture and physical tension.
Although these conditions seem to be inflicted upon the body, often they result from the way the in which the body is used in such ordinary activities as walking, speaking, standing, sitting and bending.
The pain, backache or neckache may be sharp and localized, yet the cause is likely to be a phenomenon impossible to isolate: improper use of the body.
We are unaware that we over tighten our muscles as we react to mental and physical stimuli; we go into movement, unaware that we are distorting and unbalancing our bodies resulting in extra resistance, stress, fatigue, pain.
ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE sessions reawaken our kinaesthetic sense, which is our sense of bodily location and judgement of effort, a kind of lost sixth sense.
Benefits to be gained include release of restrictions, increased coordination,
effortless movement, fuller capacity of breath, improvement of the use of the voice and speech, increased tone in the musculature, a stronger sense of presence, pain prevention and reduction
“one to one lessons in the Alexander technique have long term benefits for patients with chronic back pain”
